Western Sydney University invites you to the CEO and Leadership Seminar Series.

This is a leadership development and networking event run by the School of Business at Western Sydney University for academic staff, final year students, external industry partners and the local community. It features different external guest speakers, who will provide valuable insight into what has shaped their leadership journey to make them successful leaders in today’s challenging business environment. The series is a great opportunity to be inspired and motivated as you (re)consider what leadership means and build relationships with other students, staff and external visitors.

Our next session is with Professor Khalil (Charlie) Shahin AO an experienced business leader, thinker, philanthropist and one of Australia's most successful but understated businessmen. Charlie is the eldest son of Peregrine Corporation founder, the late Fred (Fathi) Shahin.

The Peregrine story started in 1984, with the purchase of a small BP service station in Adelaide.

Peregrine grew to become South Australia’s largest privately owned employer. More than 6500 staff are spread across its retail operations including fuel and convenience stores, Krispy Kreme, Guzman y Gomez, Hungry Jacks, Subway and Oporto franchises, as well as SMGB stores nationwide - generating more than $3.2 billion in revenue annually.

In 2017, Khalil (Charlie) received an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) based on his distinguished services to business and commerce as well as his philanthropy as an advocate for corporate & social responsibility.

Charlie currently serves as a non-executive director of Crescent Wealth, SPC Ltd and is the Chairman of the Australian Jordanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He also serves on many other charitable foundations and institutions, both as director and advisor.

In 2022, Charlie was awarded 2 Industry Professorships at both the University of South Australia and Western Sydney University.
