WSBC’s October 2016 Business Leader Luncheon, ‘The Visitor and Cultural Economy, Driving Growth in western Sydney’, identified that there was no mechanism in place for industry and government to collaborate to effectively promote the region at this critical time.
Unifying western Sydney businesses to fund an industry led drive in collaboration with government for a stronger visitor economy; WSBC has established the Western Sydney Visitor Strategy. The project aims to produce a region-specific visitor marketing approach to promote western Sydney as a world class place to work, stay and play.
A strong visitor economy will benefit the businesses and people of western Sydney not only in terms of growth in tourism activities but also indirectly via:
- capital investment
- supply chain growth
- export growth
The man behind the incredibly successful 100% Pure New Zealand campaign, Ian McFarlane, has been engaged to help develop the visitor strategy for western Sydney. Ian is also the lead consultant of National Geographic’s smart cities of the world project; and will share key findings of this global study and illustrate the initiatives successful cities have taken to advance their competitiveness.
Also supporting WSBC in strategy development are the founding members of the Western Sydney Visitor Network Project; City of Parramatta, Campbelltown City Council, Parramatta Leagues Club, Penrith Panthers, Rooty Hill RSL, Wet n Wild, Sydney Zoo, Australian Turf Club and Museum of Applied Arts and Science.
