Plan for 650 units - The Department of Planning has on public exhibition, until February 29, a concept plan application for a mixed-use development consisting of five buildings with eight towers, ranging in height from two to 21 storey’s, at Columbria Precinct, Parramatta Road, Homebush. The plan provides approximately 650 residential units, 17,240 square meters of commercial floor space and 4800 square meters of retail floor space.

Networking in the region - Western Sydney has increasing concentrations of industry yet low rates of organised networking and representation. This impacts on the region’s ability to engage in public debate and meaningfully influence policy, according to Parramatta City Council’s economic development strategy. Several Sydney-based organisations have expressed interest in broadening their networks and activity in Western Sydney: The Property Industry Foundation, the Institute of Company Directors, the Sydney Business Chamber and the Property Council of Australia.

Mission to Thailand - The Asia Business Connection, part of the Parramatta-based Western Sydney Business Connection, has called for expressions of interest (EOI) in a mission to Thailand to attend the 2012 BOI Fair Bangkok, from 16-22 January. The BOI Fair is dedicated to developing business opportunities between Thailand and other countries.

Biggest event in history
The Sydney Showground hosted biggest event in the history of AIMEX, one of the world’s top mining exhibitions, attracting more than 600 exhibiting companies – 20 per cent larger than the previous AIMEX show in 2007. The four-day AIMEX 2011 was spread over 11 venues taking up more than 50,000 square metres of exhibition space, “No other venue in Australia could cater for an event like AIMEX,” said Paul Baker, exhibition director, for Reed Mining Events.

St George ‘Green Team’
The St George Corporate and Business Bank Parramatta are taking their drive for a clean energy future to the next level, thanks to the trial of a new Mitsubishi i-Miev, a fully electric powered car. The Parramatta commercial banking team, has demonstrated its commitment to the environment through establishing its own ‘Green Team’ of volunteers, who will use the car in the local area for client visits and other business, in an effort to reduce their carbon footprint and raise community awareness about looking after the environment.

Boosting business efficiencies
An innovative program to help practising accountants and managers wrestle energy costs and boost business efficiencies will be developed and piloted by the University of Western Sydney. The project is being funded by a grant of almost $350,000 from the NSW Government's Office of Environment and Heritage as part of their Energy Efficiency Training Program. WSBC is a stakeholder in delivering training packages through its specialised membership in Western Sydney.

New head of economic unit Solaire Eggert has been appointed manager, of Parramatta City Council’s economic development unit. A former project officer with the unit, she has acted in the position for several months, while interviews were undertaken for the position.

Council calls for EOI Parramatta City Council has called for expressions of interest for potential members to join its design excellence advisory panel to provide independent expert advice and expertise on urban design, architecture, landscape architecture, art and sustainability within Parramatta. Council is also seeking EOI in the provision of advertising services on the infrastructure of council.

Council to mount campaign Parramatta City Council has resolved to establish a public campaign calling on NSW and federal governments to deliver on the Parramatta Epping Rail Line and the council-proposed Hills Rail Link, from Castle Hill to Parramatta. Council aims to build on the momentum of the recent council-sponsored economic development forum where transport was a major issue.

High-powered forum
Parramatta City Council will host a day-long forum on the growth of Sydney, the expansion of Western Sydney and the role of Parramatta as the region's capital. A series of panel discussions will be moderated by the: NSW Property Council, Sydney Business Chamber, Tourism &Transport Forum, Infrastructure Partnerships Australia and the Committee for Sydney. The forum will be held at the Parkroyal, on Tuesday, March 8.
