Castle Hill RSL and Hills District Businesses get behind youth mentoring

The Castle Hill RSL Max Potential is fast becoming the premier youth mentoring program in the Hills District. This year, 18 young adults from 6 different local schools graduated from the program. Through community and business leaders coaching in personal leadership and community engagement each student was able to initiate a community service project that met a felt need in our local area.

Over 22 weeks, Coaches develop their skills through intensive training, 4 personal coaching sessions and by working alongside young adults from local high schools.

Stuart Hues, Client Manager, IMS Group and 2011 Max Potential Coach said, “After initially being somewhat skeptical, regarding the benefits Max Potential could offer, I was very quickly converted seeing the levels of excitement from potential coaches and students at our first connect group.  There was  a real buzz around the place that was very much infectious.  The simplest way for me to describe my journey would be that of a holiday overseas.  Initially there is some trepidation before getting on the plane.  Once this settles down, the excitement of being at the airport, buying duty free and checking in the bags makes things seem very real and exciting.  We’re on the way!  Soon after taking off, the plane pitches and falls, and an announcement comes over that we are encountering some turbulence. The challenges we have faced together have been shared and over come.  We’ve all come out the other side with new friends, big smiles and a lot of stories to share.  I’ve had a thoroughly enjoyable time on the program, and would certainly recommend it as a great destination. The only problem was like any other trip abroad.  I just didn’t want to come home.”

Luke Hobbs, District Sales Manager - NSW Licensed, Coca Cola Amatil and 2011 Max Potential Coach said, “My Name is Luke Hobbs & over the last 22 weeks I have had the pleasure of being part of the “Max Potential” program, My company Coca-Cola Amatil was able to sponsor my position as a corporate community coach. On many occasions everyone was taken out of their comfort zone & in true max potential style this saw both the students & the coaches learning from the experience, I was very proud to help support my student Pippy Loewensohn in her community service project which was centred around reducing bullying in schools. At the completion of Max Potential Pippy & I both felt we had grown from the experience and would recommend this experience.”

We are now calling for community coaches for the 2011 Max Potential program running March to August 2011. There are a number of limited Coach scholarships funded by the Castle Hill RSL Club.
